Little gifts with grand gestures

It's only a few days away from Valentine's Day. Now I'm not one to make a big fuss over Valentine's Day nor get caught up in the commercial consumerism that retailers love to feed on. I tend to think that you should show your love for that someone special on any given day. There shouldn't really be one particular day when you spend all your savings and display your affection in expensive gifts. However, in saying that, Valentine's Day can be a reminder of the reasons why that someone is special to you and if you haven't expressed this to them for sometime, then a small gift of love and appreciation can be a grand gesture.

So I've put together some small gift ideas that can mean a great deal more than the gift themselves.

All in the words - Add some humour. There's nothing better than bringing laughter and smiles to loved ones.

Small meaningful gifts - Sometimes it's the little things that mean the most.

A way to anyone's heart (not just a man's) is yummy food - Indulge a little, share and enjoy. You don't have to bake it yourself (however, if you can that's even more special). Food is a great way of sharing moments with loved ones.

Personalise and with a difference - This is the most important part of any gift. It lets your loved one know that you actually thought of them and who they are when buying/making and giving their gift to them. Unexpected, off centre (that suits your loved one's personality) and memorable gifts will be cherished for years to come.

Italian Vogue Makeup Session

Well what else to do on a Tuesday night but to help out my fabulous friend Kerry-Ann with her Italian Vogue Makeup trial session. Pulling out my inner model, I excitedly sat in awe as Kerry-Ann worked her talented magic on my facial features with her creativity.

Kerry-Ann was the wonderful makeup artist that did my fashion panel makeup here. She did an amazing job and I will forever be thankful for her efforts.

I arrived at the Cameron Jane Make Up Design Academy in Richmond and was greeted by Kerry-Ann and her colleagues as well as the incredible Martin Bray, who was conducting the session. It was very professional environment and as I watched Kerry-Ann and her class mates, I was amazed at their talents with a makeup brush. The process is really like painting a piece of art and the artist's tools do play a very important part in the process.

Steve Madden Bourke St Launch Party

Last week I had the privilege to attend the Steve Madden Bourke Street Store Launch. It was a fabulous event in the biggest Steve Madden Store in the world. Hosting three levels of shoe heaven, the party rocked out with gorgeous VIPs, fashion industry folks, bloggers and lots of shoe lovers.

I was amazed to see the vast range of the Steve Madden collection, including a new menswear range and the quirky Betsey Johnston collection. There was lots of block colour, animal prints, sequins and fringes.

The fabulous Ruby Rose was DJing the awesome party's tunes.

I was able to finally meet the gorgeous Michelle of Michelle's Style File and Steve Madden's VIP Blogger.

It was a great pleasure to catch up with the amazing TUTU of Wow People Blog and Wow People Events.

February's Man of Style

It's been a couple of months since I posted "Man of Style." I thought what better way to start the month of February but with a little fashion style eye candy.

Bradley Cooper is known for his good looks and hot body in Hollywood, but he also helps these features by dressing them up with a great sense of style.

Australia Day celebrations

Last Thursday was Australia Day, so being a public holiday, I decided to head down the Great Ocean Road to enjoy the clear blue skies, the sun, surf and sand. It's been about 4 years since I did this drive and not sure why I haven't been sooner. The coastline is spectacular to look at. I thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Australian Open 2012

It was a ripper of a Sunday today. The Australian Open Tennis is currently on here in Melbourne and with the weather being so perfect today (actually it was a little warm and I did get a little colour) that I headed to Melbourne Park to watch some great tennis matches. There was plenty of action happening and I thoroughly enjoyed my day. I was so glad that I could actually dress like it was summer, which I haven't been able to do since returning to Melbourne as the weather has been far from the expected warm sunny days that one would anticipate to experience at this time of year.

Anyway, I hope that you all had great weekends and would love to hear what you got up to.....

A blue affair

So this is the first official outfit post of 2012. I have a strong tendency to be attracted to the colour blue as you can see here, here, here and here.

These two pieces were the only items I bought in the post Christmas and New Year sales. I was a little disappointed that I didn't manage to prioritise my time more so that I could do more shopping and within the time that the sales were on. I really wanted to start the year afresh with a new wardrobe. But alas, that has not happened. Nevermind, that now gives me a good reason to frequent the weekend markets more.

Well today is the last day of my holidays. I guess all good things have to come to an end at some point. It's a shame really. I was starting to get used to the laid back lifestyle of doing what I wanted to do at my own leisure.

During my break I thought I would do a lot more shopping than I actually ended up doing. I found some fantastic accessories more so than clothing during the New Year Sales. So over the course of the next few weeks, I hope to be showing off all my latest purchases, but for now here is a sneak peak at some of my new accessory loves.

Welcome to 2012!

I hope that you all had a wonderful time celebrating in the new year. I was lucky enough to be able to go out dancing with my family and friends. It was a great night out, in which I don't get to do very often. So I think that might be one of things to do more of in 2012 - go out dancing.

I'm fortunate to still be on holidays for the rest of this week. I'm not sure how I'm going to get out of the routine I currently find myself in - sleep in, exercise, go out for lunch with friends, watch movies, do dinners with family members, and stay up late doing whatever it is I feel like because I know I can repeat the same again the next day.

Here is a small snippet from my summer holidays so far.

Trying to hit golf balls at the driving range. I don't think that I have actually picked up a golf club in the last 5 years and probably back then I only hit half a dozen balls. Lots of swinging was happening but not so much of striking the ball.

Well I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and were able to spend it with their loved ones. I had a fantastic Christmas with my family. We headed down to my Grandma's beach house and relaxed and laughed all day long. I am in full holiday mode. My days have been filled with sleeping, eating, exercising, sunbaking, photography, reading and watching movies. I haven't yet hit the shops. The sales are still in full force, so I will most likely take a peak on the weekend. I'm off to Magnetic Island today. I will be bike riding around the island, which could be interesting as there are a few hills on the island that you must go over to get to other parts of the island. I think my legs are in for a bit of workout.

The snap shots below are some of my holiday photos. The first two photos are the sweet Christmas presents I received. The rest are of the beach where I've just spent the last few days. I bought a new bikini just for these holidays. I haven't owned a bikini in about 5 years so I was well overdue for a new one.

This is the newest addition to my wardrobe. It's going to be my staple summer dress for the next month at least. It's super fitted on top and flowy on the bottom, which is perfect for me. Summer was in full force on Saturday. A top of 30 degrees. So it was a perfect time to bring out the shorts. It has been summer for 18 days now, but I can't say that we've had 18 days of summer here in Melbourne. It's been up and down on the thermometer, anything from 11 degrees to 31 degrees. I much prefer the warmer temperatures. It's only 4 days to go before I'll be back home in sunny Queensland. Getting excited....

Well you would think that since finishing off my uni semester that I would have a great deal more free time. In fact, its been just the opposite. I have been making up for lost time and catching up with friends that I neglected throughout the semester as well as attending end of year celebrations. Although, I am thoroughly enjoying the continuation of a busy schedule, I have somewhat been neglecting my online responsibilities and the blog.

This week is also super booked, so again I only have time for quick posts. I recently got started on Instagram (yes I know I am somewhat behind the 8 ball when it comes to the iphone and its apps) and have become a little fixated with the application. Every possible chance I get I am taking a photo and posting it. Here are some of the very recent and few fashion snaps I have taken via the application. Whitehouse Melbourne Graduate Fashion Parade 2011

Well it was another fabulous end to a another year of graduating Whitehouse fashion students. This year was a little more dear to me because there were many friends of mine showcasing their graduate signature collections. They all produced amazingly creative capsule collections and I found myself feeling extremely proud of their achievements and a little sad that I won't be seeing them around the Whitehouse corridors next year.

Two of my favourite people of the graduating class walked away with the honour of "Designer of the Year" and so very well deserved. All those who graduated are incredibly talented but these two up and coming designers are truly gifted. So congratulations again to Alexandra Apostolidis and Adrian Bressanutti for reaching a wonderfully amazing achievement. I wish them both and all the graduating students the upmost success in the future.

I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend. It was my first weekend where I didn't have to worry about when my next uni deadline was, so it was really relaxing. I managed to have two great sleep ins, which were well overdue. I also went to the cinemas to watch the new Twilight installment. I can't remember the last time I went to the cinemas. I really enjoyed the film and am looking forward to the final installment. Is anyone else a Twilight follower?

I'm showcasing the newest addition to my wardrobe in this post. I actually found this cute owl dress at my local thrift store, Red Cross Red Threads. What I love about these stores is that they really work hard to display and sell high quality clothing and still at very reasonable prices. Although in this post I'm wearing the dress as a dress, I've actually worn it over jeans as well when the weather was a little cooler last week. So it's cute and versatile.

Genesis Collection S/S 2012

Oh my goodness, I cannot express the sense of relief that I feel as of this afternoon. I had my end of semester panel presentation today for uni. I had to present my original designs based on the brief "Tuxedo Divinity" to a panel of six academic staff, including the founder of the Whitehouse Institute of Design, Leanne Whitehouse. Through the high intensity of stress, enormous amounts of pressure and the continual doses of self doubt that I've experienced during the past number of weeks, I can now say that I am really proud to showcase this capsule collection. I need to say a big thank you to my wonderful models, Miss Ivory, Eileen and Stefani who are amazingly beautiful and made my garments look so good. So please be warned, I've gone a little overboard with the photos in this post.....

It's the weekend and there is sunshine so that makes me happy. I'm stuck indoors for most of this weekend but couldn't resist stepping outside to soak up some sunshine and smell the green grassy fields in my neighbourhood. I'm showcasing a new outfit that I purchased last week. This dress is perfect for a summer's day and these new heels are the most comfortable pair of heels I've had in years. I'm on the home stretch with constructing my capsule collection. I've left the hardest piece to last, which I'm hoping won't stress me out too much. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Emirates Stakes Day 2011

Well I had no intention of attending any race days during this year's Spring Racing Carnival, however, thanks to my Aunt and Uncle coming to town, at very last minute we decided to go to the Emirates Stakes Day. This is the last race day of the carnival - the family day. It was the hottest day of the year at the warm temperature of 30 degrees. I made the conscious decision of wearing 30+ sunscreen underneath my make up and it was a very wise choice. My outfit was not planned at all and I frantically put this ensemble together in the morning from whatever I had in my wardrobe.

I took a few opportunities between each race to walk around the grounds and find some race going fashions on the field.

Melbourne Cup 2011

Today was the Melbourne Cup - "the race that stops the nation." An amazing day of horse racing, fashion and lots of fun. Although I couldn't attend this year, I thought I would set myself a challenge and without buying anything new, put together a 5min outfit......and this was the result.

This month's Man of Style is Channing Tatum. There is no doubt that this man looks fantastic in a tailored suit, but what I wanted to showcase was his own personal street style. I'm calling him Mr Casually Cool. It appears that Channing is primarily a jeans man and loves loose fitting jeans at that. Now, I normally find men most stylish when they wear their clothes fitted. However, that could be limiting my appreciation for men's style just a little. There are many men who prefer to wear loose clothing and feel comfortable whilst maintaining their own sense of style. If you are baggy jeans man, then you should be drawing style inspiration from this gentleman.

Mr Casually Cool (aka Mr Tatum) also appears to rock out the hues of grey and navy pretty much too perfection as well as nailing the layering look.

Spring Carnival Millinery Trends

In my last post, I paid fashionable attention to this year's Spring Racing Carnival fashion trends and tips for looking dynamite on the field. If anyone has been to the races, you would know that the headpiece is as key to your overall look as is the outfit itself. I love millinery and admire those who have the talent and have mastered the skills behind creating such wonderful fashion accessories.

MB: What do you believe are the top 3 trends for this year's Spring Racing?
LM: Berets, bright colours and small but bold hats!

MB: Will this year's Spring Racing see Hats or Fascinators as the most popular millinery choice?
LM: Fascinators imply a bit of fluff and veiling from where we sit! That style of headwear is completely over and done with. However there are still more or less brimless hats to be seen this year, like a pillbox, beret or sculpted straw headpieces.

MB: What should one consider when coordinating their hat/fascinator with their outfit?
LM: Keep the silhouette in proportion and flattering to your face shape and build. For example, if you are short with a round face, wear something that gives you a bit of height. See here.

MB: What was your inspiration behind your Spring collection?

Spring Racing Inspiration

Well Spring Racing for 2011 is well under way with the BMW Caufield Cup and Tatts Cox Plate already been and gone. These two events lead the way to Australia's most intense racing week, in which you'll find AAMI Derby Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Crown Oaks Day and Emirates Stakes Day.

Although the focus is on the horses, fashions on the field also play a huge part in the attraction to these world class events.

Men and women come from near and far to dress up in their best fashions and strut their personal style among thousands at each of these racing days.

Here are some of my tips for this year's womenswear Spring Racing trends:

1. In line with Spring fashion trends - colourblocking will be all the rage.

2. Vintage inspired frocks with full skirts and cinched in waists will be a key look.

3. Headpieces are a must with this year featuring the cross mix of the hat and fascinator. A headpiece that is bigger than a fascinator but smaller than a hat will be right on trend.

4. Soft, feminine, drape and frills will be design elements to consider.

5. A pant suit will be a stand out if you can pull it off.

6. The clutch will be the handbag of choice.

7. Stick to a theme and don't over do it. If your dress is a feature then keep the accessories simple and vice versa.

Printed Palazzo

Recently, I was reading the Palazzo, Skinny or Print blog post by fellow fashion blogger Jo of JojoStyling.com and the post inspired me to go out and get my first pair of palazzo pants and printed ones at that. I don't wear a lot of pants because I can rarely find a pair that suits my body shape as I'm not quite in proportion in the waist to hip ratio. But when I saw these palazzo pants and tried them on, I was really excited because they felt so great on and were a really good fit. I'm loving their wide leg. Thanks Jo!

My end of year uni assessments are based around the concept Tuxedo Divinity. Tuxedo's and their inspiration will be taking a strong hold on most of my creative thoughts in the next couple of months as I work out my final original designs. I thought I would dedicate a post to showing how to bring a little tuxedo style to an outfit without wearing a full traditional tuxedo.

1. Semi formal - wearing a tuxedo inspired suit with a semi formal shirt and simple shoes will bring about a sophisticated and chic look without looking over the top or overdressed.

2. Dress it - bring some tuxedo style to your wardrobe with a tuxedo inspired dress. Dresses with collars, pleats, bibs, tail inspired hems etc will add great variety to your closet.

3. Go short - a great way to bring the tuxedo look into your spring/summer wardrobe is to wear the tuxedo short suit. This look will still bring all the appeal of a full tuxedo suit but will be much more comfortable to wear during summer.

4. Casual - you can still look cool and sophisticated with a casual tuxedo inspired look. A quality white shirt with tuxedo detailing paired with casual bottoms will still bring the desired effect to your outfit.

5. Fashion Forward - be fashion forward and get the tuxedo inspiration directly from the runway. Get an interesting tuxedo look with mixing and matching traditional pieces with interesting pieces.

Tasmania Holiday Part 2

I'm showcasing the rest of the sites that I captured on my recent Tasmania Holiday. I was super surprised and really elated when I came across the Home Hill Restaurant and Winery. Why is that, you ask? Because my Mum's side of the family actually come from a place called Home Hill in North Queensland and I spent the first 8 years of my life growing up there. I still visit every year for Christmas. When dining there, I asked the waiter how the owners came up with the name of the winery. He said that they were travelling up north and went through this quaint little town called Home Hill and it reminded them of their home on the hill back here in Tasmania so they decided that, that would be the name of their restaurant and winery. I was very chuffed indeed to here that story. I love my home town.

I took a day trip to drive from Hobart up to Launceston and Davenport to have a look around at some of Tasmania's countryside. Stopped in at the Anvers Confectionery and Chocolate Factory for a coffee and some chocolate tastings.

Found this cute place called Tasmazia in the Promise Land of Tasmania. It was a really enjoyable and unique experience. Super fun for those with families.

Tasmania Holiday part 1

Last week I was on a small 7 day vacation in Tasmania. I'd never been to Tasmania before, so I was really looking forward to the trip. I wasn't really sure what to expect, so I was pleasantly surprised with just how picturesque Tasmania is. I was staying at Seven Mile Beach which is just outside of Hobart and it was a fabulous place to relax and recharge the batteries. I do have lots of wonderful photos from the trip, but can only show so many on the blog. I'm only showcasing the beautiful waters of Tasmania in this post, but will post some more photos in future posts. To get to Tasmania you can either fly or take a cruise with Spirit of Tasmania. I flew this time but would really like to take another trip by cruise ship.

Man of Style - Kellan Lutz

I've decided to start up a Man of Style series on the blog. I equally love menswear and men's style as much as womenswear, so I thought that this would be a good way to share with you my loves of menswear fashion as well as bringing some interesting items of men's style to both my male and female readers. I'm going to aim to do at least one Man of Style post every month but if I can do more I will.

So to kick off the series, I've started with sharing some style inspiration of someone I see as one of Hollywood's up and coming men of style - Kellan Lutz.

Sure he's creating all the right waves as a friendly vampire in the Twilight series, has one amazing smile and an incredible physique. But I think what's best about this man is his style. Mr Lutz always looks effortless in whatever he wears. Now the real point I want to make with Mr Lutz and his sense of style is that "he owns it." Guys, you don't need to have a celebrity status, lots of money, killer looks or an awesome physique to have good style. You just need to follow some simple Kellan Lutz rules:

1. Mr Monochromatic - keep it simple, low key and carry confidence.

2. Mr Suave - Suits with interesting yet subtle details, which are crisply pressed and coordinated will get you all the attention you need.

3. Mr Cool - casual dressed up a little with a some clever layering will take you from ordinary to interesting.

In my previous Wonderful Wedding post, I mentioned that I was in the Hunter Valley, a lovely wine region in New South Wales. The weather was so lovely, which was a pleasurable break from the bleak cold that I was experiencing in Melbourne that same week. Here is a quick outfit post, where I was making the most of lapping up the gorgeous sunrays and warmth whilst enjoying the fantastic countryside around me. I'm currently in Hobart, Tasmania enjoying a week's holiday. I hope that everyone is having a fabulous week. How to wear Stripes on Stripes

I am always instantly drawn to fashion items that have stripes. It's an immediate attention grabber for me. There can be loads of beautiful items on a clothes rack, but if there is just one striped piece, then I am bound to look at that piece first over all others. Although, stripes can be a super striking statement piece, it is difficult for one to master the stripe on stripe style. So I wanted to give a few tips on how I think one can pull off this styling without getting it completely wrong.

Soft and Bold Stripes - mix a bold hard edge stripe with a softer toned stripe in a similar colour or complementary colour. The softer stripe should be subtle so that the bold stripe can still accentuate as a feature yet provide an interesting and stylish look.

Colour tones - stripes on stripes does work extremely well if the colour palette of all the items is of the same hues of colour. Combining an assortment of stripe widths in a layering effect of the same colour can really add punch to monochromatic look.

Horizontal and Vertical - stripes running in opposite directions can be tricky, but if the proportions are right, then the horizontal vs vertical stripe ensemble can look amazing.

Random - the mixture of random stripes in a variety of colours, proportions and widths works best if one piece is much less casual than the other piece. If a striped skirt or trouser is a little dressy, pair it with a casual striped tee or tank for the look to work well. This can be done in the reversal also.

A Wonderful Wedding

I had a wonderful weekend attending my cousin's wedding in the beautiful Hunter Valley. It was the first wedding of my generation on my Dad's side of the family, so it was a very special occasion. I really enjoyed spending time with my immediate family and catching up with my cousins, Uncle and Aunt. I've never been to the Hunter Valley before. It's a renowned wine region here in Australia. I was a little concerned on the Friday when I arrived as it was raining and a little miserable, but come Saturday and Sunday the weather was absolutely perfect.

Well it was a fabulous week of fashion at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. The city was buzzing with glitz and glam of the industry's most fashionable. From fashion heavyweights to emerging designer students, the week in fashion, design and style was one for all who love everything associated with industry. The highlight of the week for me was catching up with my female fashion blogger in crime, Jo of JoJoStyling. We had a wonderful time attending the Designer Series Runway Show #2 of Melbourne's most fashionable boutique labels.

Dreaming of Dior, Chanel and Darnell

Last Friday, I was asked whether I had any plans on Saturday, and if not would I like to help out Charlotte Smith launch her new book "Dreaming of Chanel" at the Melbourne Writers Festival. When I asked what it was that I would be doing, I was thrilled to find out that I would be one of seven girls to get dressed up in Charlotte Smith's famous Darnell Collection, which boasts over 6000 privately owned vintage pieces. Plans or no plans, I wasn't about to miss out on the opportunity, so I delightfully accepted the invitation. When I met Charlotte, I was immediately in awe of this beautifully elegant and down to earth woman. The entire experience from start to finish was absolutely wonderful. I met some really great people and had a fabulous time showing off the stunningly beautiful vintage pieces from the collection.

Father's Day

We are celebrating Father's Day here in Australia today. Unfortunately, I couldn't be with my Dad today, but I called him this morning and I will be skyping him later on tonight. For all of you from Australia and New Zealand, I hope that you are having a wonderful day spending time with your Dads. Thankfully, I will be seeing my Dad next weekend when we attend my cousin's wedding. I remember as a kid, we'd always get Dad coffee and breakfast in bed on Father's Day and then we'd do something outdoors for most of the day and finish off the night with a family movie.

Female Fashion Bloggers Day

I had an enjoyable Saturday afternoon meeting up with other Melburnian female fashion bloggers at the Networking Day for fashion and creative Lady Bloggers. It was an intimate get together at the Queen Street Rescue Cafe and it was hosted by the lovely Lady Melbourne.

I hope that this event will become a regular occurrence in the female fashion blogging world because as much as it is great to connect with other bloggers online, it is as equally as important to connect with them in person.

I recently found myself in a belt shopping spree. I was housing only 1 belt previously in my closet and was always disappointed when I went to style an outfit that I had to work around just one belt. So when I found a basket of belts on sale at one of my local boutique stores, I immediately started digging around for some great treasures. When I saw this beauty, it actually reminded of the Heavyweight Boxing Championship belts. Although my belt may not actually be a trophy, it is definitely the current trophy piece in my wardrobe.

The weather here in Melbourne at the moment is delightful. Full sunshine and mildly warmer temperatures. Whilst I haven't been able to spend a great deal of time outdoors due to trying to get some uni work completed, I have opened up all the blinds and windows of my unit to let the sun rays in and fresh air loft throughout. As previously mentioned last week, I attended the Whitehouse Institute of Design's Melbourne Open Day and wanted to share some of the photos that I took showcasing some of the talented up and coming student designers. The Whitehouse offers a Bachelor of Design with specialisations in Fashion Design, Creative Direction & Styling and Interior Design. I really enjoy witnessing the creative talents of the fresh ideas that come from student and emerging designers. I think that university is a great platform for creative individuals as they can design without the pressures of commercial viability and really express themselves as designers.

It's adjustment week this week. My uni classes begin again tomorrow and now it's time to readjust my time, my train of thought and my priorities. I'm excited and worried at the same time. But hopefully, it will be all smooth sailing for the next 13 weeks. I'm most looking forward to getting the creative juices going and hopefully produce some great concepts. I hope that you are all enjoying your weekend immensely. I had a little get together last night with some close girlfriends. They were so sweet, as they put on a small belated birthday celebration for me. It is always nice to know that you do have some wonderful people in your life. I was really appreciative of their lovely gesture.

I found this beautiful beetle ring recently. I love statement pieces and this little (well not so little) beetle is certainly making a statement. I took him for a wander around in my outdoor courtyard yesterday.

Ways to wear High Boots

We are roughly in the middle of our winter season here in Australia. I'm based out of Melbourne, which is one of the colder cities in Australia. One of the good things about winter is that you can really have fun with mixing up your personal style. High boots, I think can be one of the trickier fashion items though to wear and style correctly. So, I thought that I'd give an insight into my personal thinking when it comes to wearing high boots.

1. Be confident when wearing high boots. Both knee high and thigh high boots can make a huge impact on your entire outfit and can be the statement piece representing your own personal style.

2. Proportion is essential. High boots can easily look wrong in your styling, if you don't have the rest of the pieces you are wearing in the right proportion to compliment and/or balance out your high boots.

3. Don't be afraid of colour, print or texture. Black and brown are the the most commonly worn colours for high boots. Add a little "wow factor" to your outfit by wearing high boots in a vibrant colour, such as purple or a leopard print or even in an interesting texture.

4. Add an extra layer. Wear high boots with over jeans, leggings or high socks to add more interest to your overall look.

5. Wear high boots in the right context. What I mean is, pair your boots with the appropriate outfit. I personally think that high boots (both knee high and thigh high) are inappropriate to wear with corporate office attire or to a family function with a bikini top and a mini skirt. But personal style is about personal preference!

6. Have both a flat and heeled pair of high boots in your wardrobe. It's always good to have a variety of heels so that you can still create a fantastic impact at low key and/or high activity events without having to endure sore feet at the end of the day.

A little while ago, I posted about how bags were one item that I just never seemed to be able to commit to buying. I also showcased a series of bags that I found online that I was interested in purchasing. However, the inevitable happened and I couldn't bring myself to buying any of them. But alas, I broke out of the "no buy bag zone" and purchased this fantastic beauty. I think I did pretty well considering I found the bag at my local op shop for just $7.99. It's in immaculate condition. I got rid of my ugly, falling apart shoulder bag and now carrying this gem around with me everywhere.

Old Wardrobe Favourite

I've been a bit quite this week in the blogosphere and online frontage. I lost a little inspiration from the lack of having a camera and also I found myself becoming somewhat stressed out and run down. So I thought a little break was needed.

However, today I attended the very first Nuffnang Blogopolis Conference, where blogging minds came together to share their blogging experiences and pick up some great tips. It was an awesome event and I was very thankful for being able to attend.

One of the tips recommended at the conference was to go through your old photos and blog posts to find inspiration. So, I decided to do just that. I was looking through some old photos and found this dress, which was one of my favourite wardrobe pieces. It was so easy to wear and I thought it had a little edge to it. I wore it so often, that when I went home to my parents house at Christmas, I decided to leave it behind because I didn't want it to be in my closet anymore. I thought this way I would choose and wear other wardrobe pieces that normally got neglected. I featured it on the blog about a year ago here. But I will admit, I miss it terribly.

Birthday inspiration

It's a very happy weekend this weekend because today, I am celebrating my birthday. Unfortunately, I still haven't managed to get myself a new camera so I may need to borrow someone's iphone/camera or even purchase a disposable camera at some point to take at least one photo for memorabilia of the weekend celebrations. I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. I had a pleasant and carefree weekend until my camera broke on Sunday afternoon whilst taking these photos. I was so disappointed for a few of reasons. 1) I didn't have a backup camera to take any more photos. 2) These photos are all I had to work with for this post. 3) I will be without a camera most likely for the remainder of the week. 4) I hadn't really budgeted for a new camera anytime soon and 5) I simply hate it when something I own breaks.

Aaahh, it's so good to be Friday. I'm still struggling a little bit to get out of holiday mode, particularly in the mornings. I'm really missing the sleep ins and the lack of urgency to get up and go places, which is not so ideal when I have to get myself to work each morning. But hopefully I'll snap back into routine very soon. I'm also enjoying my break from uni. I have 5 weeks off before heading back into Semester 2. I'm excited to go back but somewhat dreading the schedule I will have to keep. I say that now, but come the end of the semester, I will see the end results and think "Yep, it was all worth it."

A Rocky Black Taste

Well this is the last of the featured photos from my trip to the west coast of Australia. I don't often wear all black, but it was the last of 6 days worth of sightseeing and I just wanted to feel at ease in a simple, casual and comfortable style during the last day. The weather in the region had become really patchy and it was quite cold, rainy and overcast with a few small and brief openings of sunlight. This was the final winery that I visited, Sandalford Wines. I would have to say that it was a case of leaving the best until last. The Sandalford wines were really lovely. From there, I made a dash for it while the skies were clear and headed to Canal Rocks in Yallingup. Located within Cape Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, there is a series of granite rocks that form a canal hollowed out by the force of the sea. The locals have built a little bridge across the canal where you can experience the gigantic rush of water under the bridge and through the canal. It's quite a treat.
